Burton Snowboards unveil Wearable Comms Gear.
Burton Snowboards have added Fibretronic's PTT technology to their Audex range of jackets and backpacks for sale Fall/Winter 06/07.
The PTT technology (push-to-talk) is a remote communications system designed for the easy operation of 2-way radios. By exporting the push-to-talk switch and the microphone and speaker units to a useful position on the garment, the system allows the wearer to communicate without needing to remove the radio handset from an internal pocket.
The PTT technology can be supplied as a self-contained module for easy attachment/detachment to the finished product using Velcro or snaps. Alternatively the system can be supplied as a textile cable harness for permanent integration into the finished product. The textile harness is designed with detachable snap-on microphone and speaker modules that can be removed from the garment for laundering. Both types of system have been designed so that they are easy to operate when wearing gloves.
Burton Snowboards are using the PTT module on the Stormflap of their 'AK 2L GoreTex' and '3/2' men's and women's snowboarding jackets, whilst their 'AK 40L' backpack has an integrated PTT system in the strap.
Fibretronic's PTT systems are compatible with consumer FRS 2-way radios such as the Motorola Talkabout series. These systems can also be supplied for connection to professional radio handsets such as standard professional products from Motorola and Icom.
